2012 HCC Creative Writing Contest Winners

Ø 1st Prize ($150.00): Jeff Hoyle (“The Strawberry in My Side,” narrative essay)

Ø 2nd Prize ($100.00): Nate Chambers (“Returning: Twelve Meditations,” poem)

Ø 3rd Prize ($50.00): Dillon Roop (“Drunkles Skate,” poem)

Ø Honorable Mention: Samantha Faust (“Cup of Coffee,” poem), Holly Hoyle (“The Interruption,” narrative essay), Jeff Hoyle (“A Lesson in Waging War,” narrative essay) and Brad Wright (untitled short story)

The contest was judged by three HCC English Instructors: Clay Couch, Ryn Hayes, and Stephanie Wampler. Along with the monetary awards, the three prize winners will see their work appear in the 2012 edition of Haywood Press, which is scheduled to be published on May 3rd. The Freedlander LRC provides a student technology help desk to assist students and faculty with computer issues and questions. The help desk is located just outside of room 227 in the LRC and we have a wonderful staff of friendly and experienced workers. Help desk staffers can handle a wide variety of computer questions, including:

- software installation/issues
- Moodle, Haywired, and Blackboard login, navigation, and use
- Microsoft Office use, including advanced features for Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
-personal computer safety and efficiency consultation
-document repair/recovery
